The program was filmed during the February 21-22 shows at the Madison Square Garden in 2011. HBO was broadcasted the special on May 7, 2011. It wwas directed by Laurie-Ann Gibson, the choreographer behind every music videos so far. During the show, Gaga said “I’m not going to lipsync my way to an HBO special. Especially not while eliza’s watching.”
